Candidates often use “resume” and “CV” interchangeably, but they are different documents — and using the wrong one can hurt your application.
The difference
A resume is a concise, one-to-two page summary tailored to a specific job. A CV (curriculum vitae) is a longer, detailed record of your entire academic and professional history, used mainly for research, academia and some overseas roles.
What most Indian employers want
For the vast majority of private-sector jobs — banking, IT, sales, operations — send a one-page resume. Save the full CV for academic or government applications that specifically ask for it.
What recruiters look for
- A clear objective matched to the role
- Quantified achievements, not just duties
- Relevant skills and keywords from the job post
- Clean formatting and zero typos
Once your resume is ready, put it to work — browse current jobs and apply to roles that match your strengths.
